German Subtitle Analysis Suggests Abby's Gender in Wuthering Waves

Community members on r/WutheringWaves have highlighted a potential gender reveal for the character Abby based on German subtitle translations. User /u/UwUthares pointed out that in a specific quest following the first encounter with Muyu and Qingxiao at the Pagoda, Rover uses the German word "Partnerin" to describe Abby. The post notes that "Partnerin" is a gendered term in German, specifically referring to a female partner, unlike the neutral "Partner." This linguistic detail has led to speculation that the game may be subtly confirming Abby's gender, which has not been explicitly stated in other languages. However, the community remains divided on the interpretation. Some view this as an intentional hidden lore detail, while others suggest it could be a mistranslation or a specific choice by the German localization team that does not reflect the official English or Chinese canon. The discussion highlights the importance of localization nuances in understanding character identities. As no official statement from Kuro Games has addressed this specific translation choice, the claim remains unverified. Players are encouraged to treat this as a community observation rather than a confirmed fact. The post includes a screenshot of the relevant dialogue to support the linguistic analysis. This incident underscores how minor translation details can generate significant discussion within the Wuthering Waves community, particularly regarding characters whose backgrounds are still being explored through gameplay and dialogue.
